Duration : Acclimatization, 2 days and 12 days in trekking and mountain.
Itinerary:
Considered within one of the more beautiful circuits of trekking of the world, in Huayhuash still it is possible to perceive the real sense of the adventure in the Peruvian Andes. During these days it is possible to observe several of the mountains that shape this mountain chain and also, from Chiquian, you will see the dangerous walls that belong to the cordillera which are worldwide known because of their difficult ascent (you will find here the Siula grande west face-20, 814 ft. – 6,344 m. famous after the dramatic survival story the British alpinist Joe Simpson wrote in his book "Touch to the void"). It is also possible to see the Jirishanca (19,993 ft.- 6,094 m. once climbed by Ricardo Cassin in 1964), Rondoy (19,259 ft. – 5,871 m.), once climbed by Walter Bonatti) and Yerupaja Chico (21,765 ft. – 6,634 m.) for Reinhold Messner in 1966. The Yerupaja Mountain is the highest Peruvian mountain after Huascaran and one of the most difficult to climb.
Day 1 .- Huaraz, (3,100 m.) Huallanca (3,500 m.) Matacancha ( 4,120 m.). In vehicle.
Camp.
Day 2. - From Matacancha, we will ascent to first pass Cacananpunta, at 4.700 m. The change of landscapes with respect to other cordilleras in Peru is always interesting there. The green valleys dominate all the place. Descent to Mitucocha lake, 4.150 m. You can see one the most emblematic mountains in Huayhuash, the Jirishanca 6,094 m., once climbed by Ricardo Cassin.
Day 3. - Mitucocha lake, Carhuac pass, 4.650 m. descend Carhuacocha lake, at 4.138 m. an exceptional viewpoint to mountains Savage, Jirishanca, Yerupajá an Silulá ( east faces).. According many commentaries of the people who are there been, Carhuacocha is the most beautiful camp of all the circuit.
Day 4. - Carhuacocha, third pass , Siulá (4,850m.) descent to the Huayhuash camp . (4300 m.)
6 - 8 hours aprox. This day is extensive but most beautiful of the trekking. We crossed near of the glaciers Yerupaja (6.634 m.) and the Siula grande, 6.344 m. We can hear the avalanches ...
Day 5 .- Ascent the fourth pass, Portachuelo (4,750 m.) and descent to Viconga lake (4.407 m.) A few meters exist natural thermal baths. Camp with an exceptional swimming pool with hot water at 4400 m. altitude. A whole midway relax ..
Day 6 .-Ascend to the fifth pass , Cuyoc Punta (5,000 m.). The view from here is perfect to Yerupaja, Carnicero, Rasac and others. At this point we will be entering into the Huayhuash west side. The journey is 5 hours until close to Huanac Patay valley. Camp beside a giant elephant-shaped stone.
The ascent runs through a bridle path that zigzags to reach near the glacier Cuyoc.
Day 7. - Descend from the Huanac Patay to Huayllapa town, (3.800 m.) and we will ascend until the 4.200 m. (Huatiac).
Day 8. - Ascend to the sixth pass, Tapush (15,744 ft. - 4.800 m.).
Camp in Gashcapampa. (4600 m.) Base camp of Diablo Mudo.
Day 9. - 3 a.m Ascent to DIablo mudo mountain.North route. The route is glacier with a short rapel during ascent.
In some books, the name of this mountain is Suerococha.
The view from the summit is total for Huayhuash. Descent for the south route.
Day 10.-Rest day for a "Pachamanca" - typical food of the Peruvian andes based on lamb and spices that are cooked underground. This is one of the most impressive of the circuit.
Optional:visit to Jirishanca glacier
Day 11. - Jahuacocha - Llamac town 3,300 m. 4 - 5 hs. Return to Huaraz.
If you don't have 11 days to complete this circuit, it is possible to do part of it by the west side of the cordillera in about 4-7 days according to your availability. We will acomodate a program for your needs.
