CHOQUEQUIRAO TREKKING
NEW INCA TRAIL
5 DAYS.
Duration : acclimatization, 2 days and 5 days in trekking.
CHOQUEQUIRAO (from the Quechua Chuquik´iraw "Cradle of Gold") is situated in the spurs of the mountain range of Salkantay, at 3035 m.a.s.l. surrounded by snow capeted Apus of Yanama, Ampay, Choquetacarpu and Pumasillo on the right side of Apurimac River in the Santa Teresa district, the Covencion province of Cusco. Choquequirao is a Inca town formed by small sites spread out in rubblework that in its adjoining constructs a complex metropolis similar to those of the other regions placed on the crest of the hill by the some name of Choquequirao
Rest in Cachora village. ( arrival to Cuzco or Abancay)
Itinerary:
Day 1.-From Cachora we can observe the Majestic Padreyoq snow-covered peak 5,482 masl the hike on this firs day is 21.50 Km . 3 hours flat from Cachora to Mirador Capuliyoc and 4 hours down hill until camp site 1580 m.
After crossing the hanging bridge over the Apurímac River (playa Rosalinda)we will begin to ascend towards Santa Rosa, where the vegetation will become abundant and the weather hotter. Camp.
Day 2.-
Early in the morning 6:00 am after breakfast, we continue our hike going up to Marampata (3,000 m.) Hike bound for the Canyon of the Apurímac River; on the way we will watch farming activities, as well as spectacular vistas of the mountains of Vilcabamba.
We will arrive to archaeological place Choquequirao after 6 hours, good time to enjoy that majestic place. Camp near of the compex.
Day 3.- Completes visit to Choquequirao. We will observe tree levels the excavated ruins, we will appreciate houses, terraces and other part of this Inca town (depending of the weather we observe the fly of the Condors).
Day 4.- After an early breakfast we pack and start walking back to Palaya Rosalinda, on the way we can observe again Apurimac canyon. Here we maybe lucky to appreciate the flight of the Condor, the exuberant vegetation and its variety of flower and orchids.
Last camp.
Day 5.- After crossing the hanging bridge over the Apurímac River we will begin to ascend towards Capuliyoc.
during the trip we will enjoy the attractive views of the Snow-Capped Mountain of Salkantay and the Cordillera of Vilcabamba, as well as the Canyon of the Apurímac River; from Cachora we will begin our return to Cusco.
