HUANTSAN - THE LAST ASCENT 1999
Huantsan is the second highest mountain in the Cordillera Blanca, an honor that it shares with Huandoy. It is the nearest high peak to the city of Huaraz, which serves as the Cordillera Blanca's climbing center. Huantsan's summit is only fourteen miles east of downtown. Despite the ease of approach, however, Huantsan is a steep, rugged mountain, and its normal ascent is for serious technical climbers only.
